Pork Slope, brought to you by Chef Dale Talde, David Massoni, and John Bush, is a roadhouse-inspired neighborhood bar serving a menu of Americana bar food and an extensive collection of American whiskeys.

Chef Dale Talde and partners, David Massoni and John Bush—the successful triumvirate behind TALDE and Thistle Hill Tavern in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and TALDE Jersey City and Carrino Provisions in Jersey City, New Jersey—invite you to dine and drink at Pork Slope, a Brooklyn-style roadhouse bar and restaurant. Located on a bustling stretch of Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, this 90-seat joint offers patrons a casual, lively atmosphere to enjoy a wide selection of affordable drinks and Dale’s take on classic American bar food.

David, Dale and John drew from their favorite dive bars and honky-tonks for inspiration for Pork Slope, and even used Patrick Swayze’s 1989 action film, “Road House,” as a reference. (The bar’s opening on August 18, 2012, coincided with the late actor’s birthday.) The spirit is one of no-pretension, raucous fun, affordability and good, down-home hospitality. It’s the kind of place where patrons can relax with great drinks and food, and still leave with their wallets padded. The kitchen serves until 2AM and the bar pours until 4AM daily.

Pork Slope features a wide selection of mostly American whiskeys, bourbon and rye ranging from harder-to-find small-batch distillers such as Willet and Pappy Van Winkle, to popular, larger producers such as Four Roses and Jack Daniel’s. A rotating cast of beers is offered from the bar’s 25 taps featuring craft brews as Brooklyn Brewery, Kelso and Sixpoint, along with other nationally known brands such as Lagunitas, Molson, Anchor Steam and Budweiser. In addition to offering more than 20 different ice-cold canned beers and 3 wines on tap, Pork Slope has also partnered with Kelvin Natural Slush Co. to offer a boozy slush.

Patrons can also enjoy daily $6 beer-and-a-shot specials dubbed “The Slippery Slope,” and regulars are invited to take part in friendly competition with the “100 Shot Club.” As its name suggests, the bar will track shots purchased and honor patrons who reach this significant landmark by having their name engraved on a trophy housed behind the bar.

Though Pork Slope has a strong emphasis on its bar offerings, guests can still expect delectable food with classic Americana-inspired dishes that live up to the standards for flavor and execution that Dale is known for. Menu highlights include the Porky Melt, a house-made Bratwurst sausage patty stuffed with cheddar cheese served on marbled rye with griddled onions and mustard; the award-winning signature Cheeseburger with pickles, onions, ketchup, and mustard; award-winning Nachos; and pulled pork that rivals the best in the business!

Setting the scene at Pork Slope is a collection of salvaged antiques and kitschy memorabilia discovered in basements, flea markets and attics that have been collected by the crew over the years. In similar fashion to TALDE and Thistle Hill Tavern, David and John have salvaged an oak wood fireplace mantle from an early 20th-century mansion to create the back bar. Other locally curated décor includes bar neons, vintage black and white photographs, mismatched furniture—including many pieces from the space’s previous tenant, Aunt Suzie’s restaurant. Highlighting the space are two salvaged taxidermied boars’ heads that were named Piggie Smalls and Boss Hog in a contest by the readers of the popular local blog, “F**ked in Park Slope.” And of course, in memory of Swayze, a photo of his legendary “Road House” character James Dalton is framed above the bar.
